Written in the heat of summer and recorded live with friends and collaborators, King of Having Fun is Medium Build's most ambitious and personal album yet. Across 14 tracks — blending country, rock, and indie into something entirely his own — Nick Carpenter traces the distance between the curious kid riding his bike too far from home and the grown man searching for relief in all the wrong places. Friendship, freedom, addiction, anxiety, love, and the relentless pursuit of feeling fully alive. Buena Vista Social Club — Buena Vista Social Club (Vinyl 2xLP, Anniversary Edition, White)
In 1996, Ry Cooder traveled to Havana and gathered Cuba's greatest living musical legends — many of them forgotten or retired — into a studio, and what emerged was one of the most celebrated recordings in the history of world music. The original Buena Vista Social Club album, with its opening notes of "Chan Chan," is the kind of record that stops you cold no matter how many times you've heard it. This anniversary 2xLP on World Circuit adds five previously unreleased tracks — "Vicenta," "La Pluma," "A Tus Pies," "La Cleptomana," and an alternate trio take of "Orgullecida" — to the original 14, pressed on white vinyl. The most complete and beautiful version of an essential album.
Pro Tip
If you already own the original Buena Vista Social Club album, the five unreleased tracks alone make this anniversary edition worth having — and the white vinyl pressing is beautiful. For Evanescence fans, the Deep Purple and Black Marble IEX is the one to get; the standard black vinyl will always be available, but this pressing won't. And if you're new to Medium Build, grab his earlier albums Country and Health while you're at it — they're both excellent.
