Released in 2023, The Day My Father Died is an album from SYML, the solo project of Seattle artist Brian Fennell, pressed here as a double Bone (white) vinyl LP in a gatefold jacket. His own upbringing, interwoven with experiences of abandonment, adoption, loss, grief, and love, drives him to question how connections between people shape us as individuals. “It comes back to your identity of being human; throughout time we've shared the same drive,” Fennell explains. Throughout the record, SYML weaves in familiar iconography to examine his feelings toward others, and about himself.
