Lanterns is the third studio album from composer and producer Ryan Lott under the Son Lux name, released October 29, 2013 on Joyful Noise Recordings and available here on CD. The record arrived on the heels of Lott's s/s/s collaboration with Sufjan Stevens and Serengeti and his NPR “Best New Artist” honor, and finds a striking balance between driving orchestral pop and haunting minimalism, pairing densely layered arrangements with his intimate voice. Lott assembled an impressive cast of collaborators for the record, including Chris Thile of Punch Brothers, Peter Silberman of The Antlers, DM Stith, Lily & Madeleine, Darren King of Mutemath, and the ensemble yMusic. Lead single “Lost It To Trying” was named a Pitchfork Best New Track, and the album's success led to the follow-up EP Alternate Worlds, which reimagined songs from Lanterns and included a collaboration with Lorde.
