The band seethe with emo-rock angst, snarl with hardcore rage, and soar with prog-rock ambition, often simultaneously.  Artifex Pereo achieve this difficult combination with admirable skill, thanks in large part to Jamie Davis' sweetly anguished vocals and the group's overall prowess.  \u003ci\u003eNo Stranger to Worry, \u003c\/i\u003e\u003ci\u003eAnnica,\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eThe Golden Age\u003c\/i\u003e are sustained by buoyant melodies and insistent rhythms.  Especially ferocious are \u003ci\u003eHands of Penance\u003c\/i\u003e (a blazing rocker with screamo touches) and \u003ci\u003eLaugh \u0026amp; the World Laughs with You\u003c\/i\u003e (driven by Duran Duran-esque funky riffage).  The jazz-tinged attack of \u003ci\u003eThe Straight \u0026amp; Winding Way\u003c\/i\u003e and the atmospheric expanse of\u003ci\u003eOverview\u003c\/i\u003e are further examples of the album's musical reach.
